There are important things to consider
When I was working on the floor of a large retailer, I would serve clients that had not thought of the most basic things and they would have to make a trip back home to go get that information. Can you guess what the number one thing was? I have to admit it’s not something we would think about when going shopping for furniture especially for sofas and loveseats.
The number one thing is the front door size
Did you know there isn’t a standard size for all doors in North America? So when the delivery truck would show up to the client’s home, there were sometimes huge disappointments. Usually the delivery man could see right away that the furniture will not pass through the front door but will measure it anyway just to be a 100% certain. Of course sometimes clients will still insist that the delivery guys try regardless which creates a dilemma. This is a width issue and so the client should measure his door width opening before making a purchasing decision. Sometimes removing the door will give the additional space needed to get the job done.
The number two are the wall angles in the home
This issue is encountered mainly in entrances to apartments. I encountered a lot of these when the product could not be delivered because the entrance had a small corridor that would connect to another corridor at a 90% angle and the sofa would be to long to make the turn. Now in this case it is a length issue and again the client should measure not only the length but also the height of their ceiling. If the ceiling is high enough you can lift the furniture upward and take the corner vertically.
Purchasing at the store or online
If you are purchasing at a brick and mortar store, make sure to bring a measuring tape along, there is always a shortage of them at the store when it is a busy period of the week, like Saturday. If you are purchasing online, usually the dimensions are provided in the description of the product.
Reclining sofas and loveseats, the exceptions
If the sofa you are purchasing is a model that reclines, then in most cases it is delivered with the back of the sofa not installed. This makes it easy to get past through doors and corridors. In this case the delivery man installs the back of the sofa in your home.
The delivery delay, is it in stock?
This is the one thing that irks the customers the most. Since the pandemic, manufacturers have been having production challenges. It is better now but it really rocked the supply chain for raw materials. Also they have had issues with finding workers. If you are not in a hurry to get your furniture then there is no issue but for some companies, there are delays of up to 9 months. (a year during the pandemic). So it is good to find out if your purchase is in stock.
Oh Oh and one other thing!
There are certain models (mainly in North America) that the feet are also delivered separately. These are screw-on feet that you see on the sofas. loveseats and chairs that have low profile square feet. This of course helps when getting through the door. It’s always best to ask.
